The opening chapter underscores the distinctive nature of the Southern United States, contrasting it with Northern regions. This distinction is crucial as the novel is set in Alabama, renowned for its strong sense of nostalgia and belonging, characteristics that are typical of Southern states. This chapter also discusses the figure of women and their evolution within Southern society especially through literature. Moving on to the second chapter, attention shifts to Fannie Flagg herself and her novel "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe". The first part explores Flagg's personal life, which is deeply rooted in her origins. Subsequently, the focus turns to her novel, offering a representation of the work and drawing comparisons between the book and its film adaptation. La tesi ha come obiettivo l’analisi del romanzo “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe” scritto da Fannie Flagg, con particolare attenzione al contesto storico e sociale in cui si svolge la narrazione. Nel primo capitolo viene sottolineata la peculiarità degli Stati Uniti del Sud nella storia, evidenziando le differenze di quest’area rispetto ai paesi del Nord. Questo passaggio è importante perché il romanzo successivamente analizzato è ambientato in Alabama, paese caratterizzato da un forte senso di appartenenza e nostalgia, aspetti tipici degli stati del Sud. In questo capitolo si tratta anche la figura della donna e la sua evoluzione all’interno della società del Sud attraverso la letteratura. Il secondo capitolo è dedicato all’autrice Fannie Flagg e al suo romanzo “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe”. La prima parte si concentra sulla vita di questa donna, fortemente affezionata alle sue origini.
