"Passing and the fluidity of race. An analysis of Nella Larsen's narrative."

The central topic of the thesis will be passing, an historical, social and cultural phenomenon that characterised certain members of the African-American community in the 1920s and 1930s. Key concepts such as race, identity, gender, social class and sexual orientation will be analysed in depth, taking the novel "Passing" by author Nella Larsen as a reference text.

L'argomento centrale della tesi sarà il passing, un fenomeno storico, sociale e culturale che ha caratterizzato alcuni membri della comunità afro-americana degli anni '20 e '30 del Novecento. Verranno analizzati approfonditamente concetti chiave come razza, identità, genere, classe sociale e orientamento sessuale, prendendo come testo di riferimento il romanzo "Passing" dell'autrice Nella Larsen.
