Food insecurity remains a significant challenge in Brazil, despite its status as a major agricultural producer. This paper explores the role of the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST) as an alternative to the dominant agro-export model in addressing this issue. The research investigates the effectiveness of the MST's initiatives in promoting food security and sovereignty in Brazil. Using Social Movement Theory (SMT) and a comprehensive literature review, this study assesses the MST's advocacy for land reform and support for small-scale farmers. The findings suggest that the MST offers promising pathways toward greater food security and sovereignty by challenging the agro-export model and advocating for alternative agricultural practices.

Abstract
Food insecurity remains a significant challenge in Brazil, despite its status as a major agricultural producer. This paper explores the role of the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST) as an alternative to the dominant agro-export model in addressing this issue. The research investigates the effectiveness of the MST's initiatives in promoting food security and sovereignty in Brazil. Using Social Movement Theory (SMT) and a comprehensive literature review, this study assesses the MST's advocacy for land reform and support for small-scale farmers. The findings suggest that the MST offers promising pathways toward greater food security and sovereignty by challenging the agro-export model and advocating for alternative agricultural practices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
