In recent years, the contract logistics sector has witnessed significant transformations, mainly driven by the pressing need to reduce operating costs and, at the same time, improve the quality of service to meet market demands. Furthermore, the pressure for a smaller ecological footprint is influencing business decisions, pushing towards innovations that not only optimize costs and improve services, but are also sustainable. It is in this wake that, in July 2023, DHL Supply Chain Italy inaugurated a new logistics campus in Borgo San Giovanni, Lodi. Under its roof, it currently houses spaces allocated to the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and Technology sectors, as well as spaces dedicated to the Distribution and National Traffic HUBs of the Planned Transport Business Unit. It is clear that a change of this magnitude must be followed by a thorough review of processes. In order to pursue the aforementioned objective, a method divided into the following steps was used: • Collection of the information necessary to understand the processes. • Summary and mapping of the activities carried out. • Analysis of activities and identification of inefficiencies. • Collection, evaluation and synthesis of improvement proposals. • Corrective measures, measurement and quantification of the benefits obtained. The measures introduced have made it possible to obtain the following results: • Homogenization and standardization of roles and activities; • Reduction of working hours; • Cost reduction; • Gain resulting from an increase in truck saturation. In annual terms, the work carried out has allowed us to save approximately: • 10% of the Gross Profit, compared to that obtained by the BU in 2023; • 50% of the overtime hours employed by the BU in 2023.

Abstract
In annual terms, the work carried out has allowed us to save approximately: • 10% of the Gross Profit, compared to that obtained by the BU in 2023; • 50% of the overtime hours employed by the BU in 2023.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
