Emergency medicine departments and critical care units are among the settings where organizational distress, particularly burnout, is most prevalent. This paper aims to investigate this phenomenon by analyzing its risk factors and effects within the context of emergency medicine, emphasizing its unique characteristics. Additionally, it examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on burnout levels in these departments. Lastly, the paper explores potential interventions for preventing and addressing burnout syndrome.
I reparti di medicina d'emergenza-urgenza sono, insieme alle unità di cure critiche, alcuni dei contesti in cui emerge maggiormente un particolare disagio organizzativo, il burnout. Il seguente elaborato si propone di indagare tale sindrome, analizzandone i fattori di rischio e gli effetti, in relazione al contesto emergenziale, sottolindeando le sue peculiari caratteristiche. Fa, inoltre, riferimento all'impatto dell'epidemia COVID-19 sui livelli di burnout in tali reparti. Infine, si considera i possibili interventi di prevenzione e gestione del disagio.
