This paper proposes an hazard analysis of flood events through the study of large wood material present in the riverbed, carried out within the catchment of the Mezzane stream just upstream of a newly built retaining dam placed to protect the town of Mezzane di Sotto (VR). The elongated basin covers an area of 54.55 km2 and has a main channel of 20.7 km. The main problems arise from the mountainous part, where the wood located on the valley slopes is washed into the riverbed, thus obstructing the clear passage under the valley bridges during floods, leading to the overflowing of the stream laterally and invading the surrounding villages and fields.

Abstract
This paper proposes an hazard analysis of flood events through the study of large wood material present in the riverbed, carried out within the catchment of the Mezzane stream just upstream of a newly built retaining dam placed to protect the town of Mezzane di Sotto (VR). The elongated basin covers an area of 54.55 km2 and has a main channel of 20.7 km. The main problems arise from the mountainous part, where the wood located on the valley slopes is washed into the riverbed, thus obstructing the clear passage under the valley bridges during floods, leading to the overflowing of the stream laterally and invading the surrounding villages and fields.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
