This thesis aims to explore the phenomenon of doping, with particular attention to its relationship with bodybuilding, within contemporary social contexts. The growing diffusion of the topic through social media channels has generated considerable media interest; however, it has also fueled widespread misinformation, contributing to the underestimation of the risks by those who approach such contents. The work opens with an in-depth theoretical introduction on the concept of doping, contextualizing it in the world of bodybuilding. The focus of the analysis is on the main category of substances used for performance and aesthetic purposes, anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) and on the practices commonly used in this area, analyzing their effects on the body. Subsequently, attention shifts to the multiple side effects associated with the unregulated use of these substances, both on a physiological and psychological level. The impacts on the cardiovascular system, the endocrine system, the kidneys, the liver and the skin are examined, as well as the consequences for the hormonal balance and mental health of individuals. The results collected were discussed on the basis of the habits and methods applied by AAS users, giving an interpretation that does not stop at the single use but tries to analyze the long-term consequences, in order to have a clearer vision of the possible dangers to which you may be exposed. In conclusion, this work aims to contribute to raising awareness and understanding the risks associated with doping in bodybuilding, encouraging critical reflection that aims to promote a healthy and responsible sports culture and effectively addresses the problem of misinformation and underestimation of the risks associated with these illicit practices.
