Throughout its history, Spain has always been, and remains to this day, a fragmented, culturally and, above all, linguistically divided country. In fact, it is a multilingual country. According to the Spanish Constitution of 1978, Spanish is the only official language of the State, but there are also others, which are called "co-official". These are Catalan, Galician and Basque: they are fully-fledged languages, but they are spoken exclusively in the territories of the Autonomous Communities that grant them official status and, consequently, recognise their official use. Starting from a series of preliminary theoretical considerations necessary for the understanding of a series of basic linguistic concepts, such as the difference between language and dialect, analysing the current linguistic panorama in the Spanish national territory and explaining what we mean when we talk about the Catalan language, the thesis will focus its attention on the linguistic divergences that cross this land, especially as regards the relationship between the Catalan language and one of its dialects, Valencian. First of all, the thesis proposes to analyse the ways in which the inhabitants of these areas learn the language and the potential linguistic contamination that will be created.
España, durante su historia, siempre ha sido, y sigue siendo hasta el día de hoy, un país fragmentado, dividido desde el punto de vista cultural y sobre todo lingüístico. De hecho, se trata de un país plurilingüe. Según lo previsto por la Constitución española de 1978, el castellano es la única lengua oficial del Estado, pero también hay otras, que están denominadas "cooficiales". Se trata del catalán, el galiciano y el vasco: de pleno derecho son lenguas, pero se hablan exclusivamente en los territorios de las Comunidades autónomas que les atribuyen una valencia oficial y, como consecuencia, reconocen su uso oficial. Partiendo de una serie de consideraciones teóricas previas necesarias para la comprensión de una serie de conceptos lingüísticos básicos, como la diferencia entre lengua y dialecto, analizando cuál es el panorama lingüístico actual en el territorio nacional español y explicando a qué nos referimos cuando hablamos de lengua catalana, la tesis va a centrar su atención sobre las divergencias lingüísticas que atraviesan esta tierra, especialmente por lo que concierne a la relación entre la lengua catalana y un dialecto suyo, el valenciano. En primer lugar, se propone analizar las modalidades de aprendizaje de la lengua por los habitantes de esas áreas y la potencial contaminación lingüística que se va a crear.
