This thesis offers an overview of the use of metallic stents and computational fluid dynamics in cardiovascular diseases treatment, especially diseases concerning the coronary arteries. After an analysis of the clinical use of the metallic stents, including a discussion on the most common cardiovascular diseases, metal alloys used in the making of metallic stents are explored, with a focus on their biocompatibility and their physical properties. The most common metallic stents designs will be anaylised, recognising their different geometric features. This thesis also mentions drug-eluting coronary stents. These stents are coated with a slow-release medication designed to reduce the likelihood of complications after the stenting procedure. Finally, this thesis will explore computational fluid dynamics, a discipline which is useful to study the impact of metallic stents on blood flow: it will analyse in detail the variations of physical quantities in the concerning area, such as wall shear stress (WSS) or resistance.

Abstract
Finally, this thesis will explore computational fluid dynamics, a discipline which is useful to study the impact of metallic stents on blood flow: it will analyse in detail the variations of physical quantities in the concerning area, such as wall shear stress (WSS) or resistance.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
