Despite the absence of explicit references to psychological and philosophical studies of his period, Samuel Beckett’s works create the impression of being heavily influenced by some specific and recurrent themes. Abstract
Despite the absence of explicit references to psychological and philosophical studies of his period, Samuel Beckett’s works create the impression of being heavily influenced by some specific and recurrent themes. Notably, Existentialism was a crucial element of the cultural, artistic, and literary development at the beginning of the twentieth century. Philosophers and authors like Bergson, Heidegger, and Sartre introduced a new way of thinking and perceiving notions such as life, death, and everything in between. In particular, the concept of Time in "Waiting for Godot", "Endgame", and "Krapp’s Last Tape" is stretched and brought into play in multiple ways, ultimately showing how contemporary philosophy had a decisive role in the production and consequent staging of these works.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
