Psychological stress among medical staff is a global problem, seriously affecting their health and quality of work. Studies have shown that medical staff are at high risk of stress largely from local objective factors, such as intense workload, time pressure and high responsibility, accompanied by factors related to the nature of their work such as exposure to illness, witnessing patients and family members experiencing physical and mental health crises. Recently, the research trend on occupational stress among healthcare workers has shifted to studying the impact and consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic on the mental health of healthcare workers. In Vietnam, there is not much research on occupational stress among physicians, and a large amount of existing research on this topic was conducted during the COVID-19 epidemic. In general, the COVID-19 pandemic has a significant impact on the mental health of doctors and nurses, consistent with the results of research abroad. This is a literature review of research from Vietnam as well as relevant foreign researchers, attempting to identify and categorize the causes of occupational stress in healthcare workers of Vietnam, during and outside the duration of COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Psychological stress among medical staff is a global problem, seriously affecting their health and quality of work.
