Akrasia is the state in which an individual deliberately acts against his or her best judgement. The paper on the basis of Hermans' theory of the dialogical self, according to which a person's identity is understood as the result of a is understood as the result of constant interactions between multiple self-positions in a dialogue that changes according to time and situation. In essence, a person may engage in akratic action when certain self-positions he or she occupies hinder the achievement of the goal set by another identity position. The present study examined a particular form of akrasia that Elster describes as 'non-compliance', where akratic behaviour is that of an individual who is unable to comply with healthy lifestyle treatments prescribed by nutrition professionals. The research involved administering a questionnaire to a group of dieters to investigate the existence and organisation of self-positions in relation to mealtimes and the choices made to comply with the professional's instructions. The main results obtained through quantitative analysis seem to confirm certain indicators that could explain high compliance situations as opposed to acratic ones.
L’akrasia è la condizione in cui un individuo agisce intenzionalmente in modo contrario al suo miglior giudizio. Nell’elaborato proposto essa viene studiata a partire dalla teoria del Sé Dialogico di Hermans, in base alla quale l’identità di una persona è intesa come esito di costanti interazioni tra molteplici posizioni-sé in un dialogo che cambia a seconda del tempo e della situazione. In sostanza, una persona può incorrere in azioni akratiche quando alcune posizioni del sé che occupa ostacolano il raggiungimento dell’obiettivo prefissato da un'altra posizione identitaria. Nel presente studio si è valutata una particolare forma di akrasia, che Elster descrive nei termini di 'mancata compliance', intendendo per comportamento akratico quello di un individuo incapace di aderire a trattamenti per l’acquisizione di stili di vita sani prescritti da professionisti del settore alimentare. La ricerca ha previsto la somministrazione di un questionario a un gruppo di partecipanti impegnati in percorsi di dieta che andasse a indagare la presenza e organizzazione delle posizioni del sé con riferimento ai momenti del pasto e alle decisioni prese per rispettare le indicazioni del professionista. I principali risultati ottenuti attraverso analisi quantitative sembrano confermare alcuni indicatori che potrebbero spiegare le situazioni ad alta compliance distinguendole da quelle akratiche.
