This study investigated the development of sociality in Neocaridina davidi to determine whether this species exhibits social behaviors. Different experimental conditions were created by separating young specimens from adults and keeping half of the individuals in isolation and the other half in groups. The experimental setup consisted of three compartments separated by transparent barriers: the test subject was placed in the central compartment, while four conspecifics or none were placed in the two side compartments. The analysis of the time spent near the compartment with conspecifics and near the compartment without conspecifics suggests that N. davidi are weakly social and that this response to companions is not influenced by the age of the subjects or the rearing conditions (isolated or in groups) prior to the test.

Abstract
This study investigated the development of sociality in Neocaridina davidi to determine whether this species exhibits social behaviors. Different experimental conditions were created by separating young specimens from adults and keeping half of the individuals in isolation and the other half in groups. The experimental setup consisted of three compartments separated by transparent barriers: the test subject was placed in the central compartment, while four conspecifics or none were placed in the two side compartments. The analysis of the time spent near the compartment with conspecifics and near the compartment without conspecifics suggests that N. davidi are weakly social and that this response to companions is not influenced by the age of the subjects or the rearing conditions (isolated or in groups) prior to the test.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
