"Filter Bubbles e Echo Chambers nello sviluppo di polarizzazione e estremismo" "Rassegna sistematica della letteratura secondo il modello PRISMA"

The problem of polarization on the Internet is relatively recent but increasingly widespread and with significant effects on user attitudes, fueled by mechanisms such as the filter bubble and the echo chamber that create redundant and homogeneous environments. The aim of this review following the PRISMA model is to, by analyzing a set of 40 articles on the issue, understand the entity and extent of the effects of these algorithms. First, the concepts of filter bubble and echo chambers are defined, their consequences on users are listed and the most common causes of polarization are analyzed. Subsequently, the PRISMA model for systematic literature reviews is set up, clarifying publication search methods and exclusion criteria. The articles considered eligible are subjected to qualitative analysis, grouped together based on the similarity of the topic covered and their results are summarized. Finally, the main limitations are exposed, together with various proposed solutions and future research perspectives.

Il problema della polarizzazione in rete è relativamente recente ma sempre più esteso e con sensibili effetti sugli atteggiamenti degli utenti, alimentato da meccanismi come la bolla di filtraggio e la camera d’eco che creano ambienti ridondanti e omogenei. Lo scopo di questa revisione seguendo il modello PRISMA è quello di, analizzando un insieme di 40 articoli sulla questione, capire l’entità e l’estensione degli effetti di questi algoritmi. Per prima cosa vengono definiti i concetti di filter bubble ed echo chambers, elencate le conseguenze di essi sugli utenti e analizzate le cause più comuni della polarizzazione. Successivamente viene impostato il modello PRISMA per le revisioni sistematiche della letteratura, chiarendo metodi di ricerca delle pubblicazioni e criteri di esclusione. Gli articoli ritenuti eleggibili vengono sottoposti ad analisi qualitativa, raggruppati tra loro in base alla somiglianza del tema trattato e vengono sintetizzati i loro risultati. Infine, sono esposti i principali limiti, insieme a varie soluzioni proposte e prospettive future di indagine.
