EVELYN PICKERING DE MORGAN (1855-1919): TRA FEMMINISMO E SPIRITUALISMO

Mary Evelyn Pickering De Morgan was a painter who lived in England between 1855 and 1919. Evelyn was part of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, as was her husband William de Morgan, and later became associated with Aestheticism and English Spiritualism. Much of the information about De Morgan's life and career is to be found in three main texts: her personal diary, her sketchbook, dated 1872-1880, and the biography written by her sister Wilhelmina Pickering Stirling, William de Morgan and his wife of 1922 . Already from the title, one understands the limitation of the author's approach, which focuses more on the life and work of her sister's husband. In addition to this, there is the possibility that not everything in Stirling's biography is correct (especially the account of the first fifteen years of Evelyn's life), as Wilhelmina was much younger than her sister.
