Thesis concerning the Spanish painter Isabel Quintanilla (1938-2017) and her artistic role within Madrid realism. The thesis focuses on the life of the artist and the Realistas de Madrid group, dedicating a brief aside to her being a female artist in the mid-twentieth century. The thesis then delves into the artist's career, focusing on her pictorial evolution and the main themes she touched. The third chapter of the thesis is dedicated to one of these: it analyzes the theme of absence in presence within some of Isabel Quintanilla's paintings. In the last chapter four paintings with related analysis are presented. The thesis is mostly based on the Spanish-language catalog "Isabel Quintanilla", written by Leticia de Cos Martín, curator of the exhibition held in Madrid in 2024, entirely dedicated to the painter, entitled "El realismo intimo de Isabel Quintanilla" - I titled my thesis in honor of this . The curator was also interviewed by me: taking advantage of my stay in Spain (Erasmus+ 2023/24), I got the chance to visit the exhibition several times and get to know the person who brought it to life. Furthermore, other sources were used for the thesis, all in Spanish.
