This master's thesis examines how machine translation, including neural translation, handles the task of translating a culturally specific hypertext about Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena DOP from Italian to Spanish. To achieve this, it compares the solutions proposed by automatic translation tools, such as ChatGPT, Google Translate, and SDL Trados, with a version produced by the translator-author of this work. In addition to making the promotional materials about Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena DOP accessible to a broader international audience in order to enhance its global recognition and boost sales, the project's objective is to assess whether the translations generated by automatic translation tools are valid and effective for a non-specialized audience, or if the intervention of a human translator is still indispensable to ensure the accuracy and cultural fidelity of the text. The thesis concludes that, although automatic translation tools generally produce understandable and acceptable texts, human intervention remains essential to ensure a precise and culturally appropriate translation, especially concerning the translation of specialized terms in the field of enogastronomy.
Esta tesis magistral analiza cómo la traducción automática, incluida la traducción neuronal, aborda la tarea de traducir un hipertexto culturalmente especifico sobre el Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena DOP del italiano al español. Para conseguirlo, se realiza una comparación entre las soluciones propuestas por herramientas de traducción automática, como ChatGPT, Google Translate y SDL Trados, y una versión realizada por el traductor autor de este trabajo.Además de hacer accesibles los materiales promocionales sobre el Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena DOP a un público internacional más amplio con el fin de mejorar su reconocimiento global e impulsar sus ventas, el objetivo del proyecto es evaluar si las traducciones generadas por las herramientas de traducción automática son válidas y efectivas para un público no especializado, o si la intervención de un traductor es todavía indispensable para garantizar la precisión y fidelidad cultural del texto. La tesis concluye que, a pesar de que las herramientas de traducción automática presentan textos comprensibles y aceptables en general, la intervención humana sigue siendo esencial para asegurar una traducción precisa y culturalmente adecuada, especialmente por lo que resguarda la traducción de términos especializados pertenecientes al ámbito de la enogastronomía.
