This study focuses on exploring the concept of time, with particular emphasis on the theme of carpe diem in Italian and French literature. In the first chapter, it begins with a quote from Saint Augustine that highlights human incapacity to define time, leading to a universal definition. The study also examines the distinction between various types of time according to Henri Bergson, including lived time and scientific time, as well as the concepts of linear, cyclical, kronos, and kairos time. The chapter concludes with an analysis of Horace's Ode 1.11 dedicated to Leuconoe. In the second part, it explores the evolution of the carpe diem concept in Italian literature through authors such as Lorenzo de' Medici, Giacomo Leopardi, Gabriele D'Annunzio, with particular attention to Carlo Michelstaedter's perspective. The final section analyzes carpe diem in French literature with Alphonse de Lamartine, Charles Baudelaire, Guillaume Apollinaire, focusing especially on the latter, Pierre de Ronsard's conception.
