By analyzing the mechanisms and organizations for censorship, the study focuses on how these entities operated to control the film industry and maintain the regime's ideology. In particular, the research focuses on the case of the filmmaker Manuel Guimarães, examining how his works were influenced and often censored. Through the analysis of archival documents, research articles, and historiographical works, this study aims to show the impact of censorship on film production and Portuguese culture of the time, highlighting both the methods employed by the regime to suppress art and the strategies used by filmmakers to survive censorship
