This paper analyses the female characters of The Lord of the Rings with a particular focus on the character of Éowyn, present in the last two books of the trilogy. The aim of the research is to demonstrate the importance of the balance between male and female within the characters created by Tolkien. In order to make this study possible, some analyses are made starting from the author's life and his influences on the feminine up to the criticism of the work. The analysis of primary sources focuses on the study of works such as "The Edda of Snorri" and "The Saga of the Volsungs" with regard to the figure of the Valkyries. Subsequently, the study continues with the comparison of characters such as Brunhilde and Siegfried with Éowyn, Faramir and Aragorn.
Il presente elaborato analizza i personaggi femminili del “Signore degli Anelli“ con una particolare attenzione verso il personaggio di Éowyn, presente negli ultimi due libri della trilogia. L’obiettivo della ricerca consiste nel dimostrare l’importanza dell’equilibrio tra maschile e femminile all’interno dei personaggi creati da Tolkien. Per rendere possibile il presente studio vengono poste alcune analisi a partire dalla vita dell’autore e le sue influenze al femminile fino ad arrivare alle critiche dell’opera. L’analisi delle fonti primarie verte nello studio di opere come “L’Edda di Snorri” e “la saga dei Volsunghi” per quanto riguarda la figura delle valchirie. Successivamente lo studio continua con la comparazione dei personaggi come Brunilde e Sigfrido con Éowyn, Faramir e Aragorn.
