The continuous electrocardiographic examination is a diagnostic instrumental test that allows the continuous recording of cardiac electrical activity for 24 hours. This retrospective study aims to investigate the frequency and prevalence of cardiac arrhythmias in a sample of dogs. The investigation was conducted on dogs observed at the Didactic University Veterinary Hospital of Padua between October 2010 and December 2023 and included all animals that underwent a 24-hour continuous electrocardiographic examination. All animals underwent a clinical examination, and the majority of them (90%) underwent a complete echocardiographic examination. Dogs were divided based on their breed, reason for the visit, echocardiographic diagnosis, and Holter examination diagnosis. The study population includes 103 continuous electrocardiographic examinations, of which 48 presented supraventricular tachyarrhythmias, 44 ventricular tachyarrhythmias, 17 bradyarrhythmias, and 21 sinus rhythm. The treatment proceeds with a descriptive statistical investigation evaluating the frequency of ventricular events, supraventricular events, and conduction defects in each Holter examination. Finally, it concludes with a brief review of the literature material comparing it to the results obtained from the small experimental contribution.
