This thesis aims to examine ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) disclosure in the Italian banking sector, with a specific focus on current regulations and future challenges. The growing importance of ESG criteria in sustainable finance has led to increased attention to transparency and accountability in financial institutions. The first chapter provides a detailed overview of ESG criteria, defining key concepts and illustrating their impact on corporate strategies and investments. The second chapter analyzes the specific regulations governing ESG disclosure in the Italian banking sector, examining European directives and national laws that impose transparency and reporting requirements. The third chapter presents a case study on the implementation of ESG practices by one of the leading Italian banks: Intesa Sanpaolo. The ESG strategy of the bank is analyzed, highlighting the initiatives undertaken, the results achieved, and the challenges encountered. The thesis concludes with a reflection on the future prospects of ESG disclosure in the banking sector, emphasizing the challenges and opportunities that arise in an evolving regulatory and market context.
Questa tesi ha lo scopo di esaminare la divulgazione ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) nel settore bancario italiano, con un focus specifico sulla normativa vigente e le sfide future. La crescente importanza dei criteri ESG nell'ambito della finanza sostenibile ha portato a una maggiore attenzione verso la trasparenza e la responsabilità delle istituzioni finanziarie. Il primo capitolo fornisce una panoramica dettagliata dei criteri ESG, definendone i concetti chiave e illustrando il loro impatto sulle strategie aziendali e sugli investimenti. Il secondo capitolo analizza la normativa specifica che regola la divulgazione ESG nel settore bancario italiano, esaminando le direttive europee e le leggi nazionali che impongono requisiti di trasparenza e rendicontazione. Il terzo capitolo presenta un caso di studio sull'implementazione delle pratiche ESG da parte di una delle principali banche italiane: Intesa Sanpaolo. Viene analizzata la strategia ESG della banca, mettendo in evidenza le iniziative adottate, i risultati ottenuti e le sfide incontrate. La tesi si conclude con una riflessione sulle prospettive future della divulgazione ESG nel settore bancario, evidenziando le sfide e le opportunità che si presentano in un contesto normativo e di mercato in continua evoluzione.
