This study investigates the molecular responses of Zea mays L. seedlings to treatments with humic substances. The primary objective was to elucidate the effects of humic substances on gene expression and metabolic pathways in maize seedlings. Seedlings were treated with varying concentrations of humic substances, and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) alongside bioinformatic analyses was employed to identify differentially expressed genes. The results revealed significant modulation of gene expression, particularly in genes associated with plant growth and development pathways. Notably, changes in key metabolite levels were observed, focusing on nitrogen acquisition and metabolism. The treatments with humic substances positively influenced maize seedling growth by regulating specific molecular pathways. These findings suggest that humic substances could be utilized as natural biostimulants to enhance maize crop productivity.

The treatments with humic substances positively influenced maize seedling growth by regulating specific molecular pathways.
