The chestnut woods in our territory play an important historical, social, economic and environmental role. Historically, man has been interested in the chestnut cultivation for many uses, cultivating this species widely, up to extend its range to the limits of its potential ecological area, favoring its spread compared to other local species. For this reason, nowadays, chestnut stands are strongly anthropized. For rural mountain communities, chestnut played a fundamental role in their food and economic sustenance, in fact, it was cultivated with care throughout the peninsula and the major islands. During the last century, economic and social transformations, including the depopulation of mountain territories, and the physiological decline of chestnut stands, caused by the exacerbation or introduction of serious diseases, have let to a long period of crisis for chestnut cultivation. The progressive abandonment of the management of many parcels has led to strong instability for these populations that are often unsuitable for other uses. Recently, there has been a renewed interest in chestnut, thanks to the relaunch of its products on the market, including wood, which is also being re-evaluated for quality productions. This work is part of a research project on a network of permanent areas in the Veneto region conducted by TESAF Department which focuses on silvicultural dynamics related to the restoration of aged and abandoned chestnut coppices. The aim of this work is the monitoring for descriptive purposes of the main parameters of a chestnut coppice, located in Pederobba (TV), subjected to a coppicing cut in the year 2007. The survey conducted on a stand close to the utilization shift aims to provide a descriptive framework that allows to define the possible assortments that can be drawn from the stand.

Abstract
The chestnut woods in our territory play an important historical, social, economic and environmental role.
