The thesis will introduce the 1974 Biennale and its political, social, and artistic expression in solidarity with the Chilean people who had recently experienced the coup d’état. Various artistic expressions will be presented, including cinema, photography, painting, and graphic art. There will be a particular focus on the artistic expression of the ‘Murales’. During the Biennale, some important artists, such as Roberto Matta, brought public spaces in Venice to life with their works, involving local artists and the Venetian community. The work will focus on the politicization process of the Biennale and the involvement of the artistic world with global events. What characterized the energy of this Biennale were the values of antifascism and international solidarity.
La tesi introdurrà la Biennale del 1974 e la sua manifestazione politica, sociale e artistica in solidarietà con il popolo cileno che aveva recentemente esperito il colpo di Stato. Verranno presentate le varie manifestazioni artistiche tra cui quella cinematografica, fotografica, pittorica e grafica. Ci sarà un riferimento particolare alla espressione artistica dei ‘Murales’. Durante la Biennale alcuni artisti importanti, come Roberto Matta, hanno animato con le loro opere lo spazio pubblico di Venezia, coinvolgendo anche artisti locali e la comunità cittadina veneziana. Il lavoro si concentrerà di fatto sul processo di politicizzazione della Biennale e sul coinvolgimento del mondo artistico con i fatti del mondo. Ciò che ha connotato l’energia di questa Biennale sono stati i valori dell’antifascismo e della solidarietà internazionale.
