The aim of this research is to analyse two of Shakespeare’s works, Hamlet and The Sonnets, by examining misogyny from the perspective of the Renaissance paradox. The focus is primarily on the characters of Ophelia, Gertrude and the Dark Lady. Specifically, the analysis is based on comparing the different quality of treatments applied to men and women in similar contexts, concentrating on the individual relationships between characters, highlighting how in these works the male universe is the one to prevail.
