Translation is not an easy matter, very often translators have to deal with texts that are not at all easy to translate and transport from one cultural context to another. This dissertation seeks to explain the difficulties in translating Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan novels into English by the author's official translator Ann Goldstein (who has also become the face of this enigmatic writer, whose true identity is unknown) focusing precisely on the saga of "My brilliant friend" and the various linguistic issues and difficulties in translating Neapolitan expressions into English. More precisely this thesis will examine the translation strategies used by the translator, the reason why they were used and some cases in which they lack accuracy.
