This thesis aims to explore how cancer can absorb and reflect some of the contemporary discourses, somatizing them into the disease. The analysis is based on three novels from Latin American literature, offering an in-depth perspective on different cases and experiences. The study is divided into three chapters, each dedicated to a specific work: in the first chapter, "Canción de tumba" by Julián Herbert is examined to understand cancer as a somatization of the violence and abandonment experienced by the protagonist; the second chapter is dedicated to "Doma" by Carina Maguregui, where cancer is interpreted as a metaphor for colonization; in the third chapter, "Las Mutaciones" by Jorge Comensal is analyzed to investigate the theme of resignation related to the protagonist's illness. The main objective of this thesis is to offer a new perspective on the disease of cancer, no longer limited to the medical field but extended to a metaphorical dimension, considering it as a consequence of traumatic and violent events in a "cruel" world.
