Punjabi-English code-switching is a relevant phenomenon that arises in the bilingualism of Indian communities. The word "bilingualism" has different meanings, however the predominant definition according to scholars consists in "the ability of a subject to use two different languages alternatively and without difficulty". Furthermore, during language production, bilinguals tend to use different interaction strategies such as code -mixing and code-switching. The following paper takes into consideration the topic of code-switching and examines its fundamental dynamics in 3 chapters. The first chapter offers a general introduction to the notion of bilingualism exposing, in particular, the brain activity that derives from it; the second chapter focuses on the two techniques previously listed, defining the influencing factors that generate these strategies. Finally, the third, outlines the distinctive case of Punjabi-English code-switching, also framing the related linguistics.
