Questo studio esamina la transizione della Cina da un'economia maoista a una potenza economica globale a partire dagli anni '70. Inizialmente, le politiche economiche di Mao Zedong erano incentrate sull'autosufficienza e sull'agricoltura collettiva, ma le significative riforme sotto Deng Xiaoping introdussero meccanismi di mercato e aprirono la Cina agli investimenti stranieri, stimolando una rapida crescita economica e una sostanziale riduzione della povertà.
