Il caso Guantánamo ventitré anni dopo: perché gli USA mantengono operativa la struttura detentiva?

Since 2001 the US detention facility located in Guantanamo is operative. There individuals suspected to have taken part in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 are imprisoned and there they were tortured. During the last twenty-two years, most of them have been transfered outside of the detention, and now only thirty are still there. The aim of this thesis is to research the reasons why the USA want to keep the detention facility open, even after all the protests of the NGOs, of the international governmental organizations, of the civil society and all the associations for human rights, but also after the violations of human rights that were there committes and that are still committed.

Dal 2001 ad oggi la struttura detentiva statunitense nella baia di Guantanamo è operativa. È proprio lì che sono stati rinchiusi gli individui sospettati di aver partecipato agli attentati dell’undici settembre, e sottoposti a torture e trattamenti e pene crudeli, inumani e degradanti. Dei quasi ottocento detenuti trasferiti a Guantanamo in ventidue anni, oggi ne restano trenta. Con l’elaborato si vogliono ricercare i motivi per cui gli Stati Uniti vogliono che la struttura rimanga ancora operativa, nonostante le denunce delle organizzazioni internazionali governative e non governative, della società civile e delle associazioni per i diritti umani, e nonostante le innumerevoli prove delle violazioni dei diritti umani che ci sono state e continuano ad esserci all’interno della struttura.
