This paper explores the birth of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the underlying ideologies of this nation such as the Juche ideology and the Songbun doctrine. The thesis aims to highlight the importance of the Kim dynasty, the role of propaganda and the constant cult of personality as a national emblem in order to stifle dissent while maintaining absolute control. Moreover, an important place in this thesis is the problem of the humanitarian situation in North Korea, known as one of the most isolated and restrictive nations in the world. This situation is also highlighted by the different testimonies of survivors of prison camps, especially for political causes. However, the response of the international community, including sanctions, diplomatic efforts and the role of organisations such as the United Nations, is critically assessed. The effectiveness of these measures in relieving the human rights situation in North Korea is being questioned and the challenges faced in holding the regime accountable are being discussed
