The present study aims to investigate which are stereotypes regarding heterosexual and homosexual men, both within the two groups (ingroup stereotyping) and between the groups (outgroup stereotyping). To do this, an implicit instrument called Implicit Association Test, and an explicit instrument were used. In the explicit instrument certain stereotypical traits of the two groups were rated on a Likert scale from 1 to 7. The measurements derived from the two instruments were analyzed individually and compared both within the whole sample and in individual groups composed of heterosexuals and homosexuals. No interesting correlations emerged between the measures obtained from the two instruments. At the explicit level, no significant differences were found between the two groups but traits were rated more or less stereotypical in accordance with the sexual orientation they referred to. At the implicit level, ingroup stereotyping levels were higher than outgroup stereotyping levels for homosexuals, while they were equal for heterosexuals.
