This thesis examines the role of nurses in the prevention of gambling-related issues in Italy, through a literature review and an analysis of preventive intervention methods. Problematic gambling is a condition that profoundly affects individuals' physical and mental health, family relationships, and socio-economic well-being, with rising incidence rates and an increasing number of young people affected. The research explores three levels of prevention: primary, secondary, and tertiary, with particular attention to preventive actions involving nurses in school, social, and clinical settings. Primary prevention interventions aim to reduce vulnerability among younger generations through educational programs that raise awareness of the risks of gambling. Secondary and tertiary prevention focus on individuals who are already exhibiting risky behaviors or have developed a full-blown addiction, promoting psychological support and monitoring health interventions. The findings show that nurses, through their educational skills and advocacy abilities, play a crucial role in positively influencing patient behavior and supporting public health policies. This study highlights the importance of interprofessional collaboration for effective management of gambling issues within the Italian population and proposes an approach that integrates the contributions of nurses with those of educators and psychologists, in order to foster a safer and more informed social environment.
