Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a psychiatric condition characterized by significant instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and mood, along with impulsive and self-destructive behaviors. Key symptoms include intense fear of abandonment, unstable interpersonal relationships, and mood swings that can vary rapidly. Individuals with BPD may exhibit impulsive behaviors and self-harm, as well as a chronic sense of emptiness or boredom. This disorder typically emerges in early adulthood and can lead to substantial functional and social difficulties. Managing BPD is complex and often complicated by comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. The variability and intensity of symptoms can make diagnosis and treatment challenging. Patients with BPD frequently struggle to maintain stable relationships and manage their emotions, significantly impacting their quality of life and overall well-being.
