Background: Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a key treatment for various hematological, immunological, and genetic disorders. However, managing patients undergoing transplantation requires careful attention to post-transplant complications, including infections and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). The role of the nurse in this context is crucial, not only for clinical support but also for the psychological care and education of the patient. Objective: This study aims to analyze the importance of the nursing role in the care of HSCT patients, with a specific focus on the management of complications, psychological support, and patient education. The strategies adopted to ensure effective continuity of care and promote patient self-management are examined. Materials and Methods: A literature review was conducted by consulting databases such as Medline, PubMed, and CINAHL. Studies published between 2019 and 2024, available as free full-text in English and Italian, addressing the nursing role in stem cell transplantation contexts were included. Inclusion criteria required studies with adult patients of both sexes. The sources were analyzed in relation to various aspects of nursing practice, including complication management and continuous care. Results: The literature analysis highlighted that personalized nursing interventions, psychological support, and ongoing patient education are fundamental to reducing post-transplant complications, improving treatment adherence, and promoting patient autonomy. Furthermore, close collaboration between nurses and the patient’s family has been shown to enhance psychological well-being and reduce stress-related transplant symptoms. Conclusions: Specialized nursing interventions are essential for improving clinical outcomes and the quality of life of HSCT patients. Continuous education and efficient coordination of care are crucial for reducing complications and promoting treatment adherence. Keywords: Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, Nursing role, Complication management, Psychological support, GVHD, Patient education.
