Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) represent a common chronic condition, associated with a significant reduction in patients' quality of life and high costs for healthcare systems. This pilot study aims to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of educational videos to improve patients' knowledge and self-efficacy in independently managing VLUs. Four videos were developed based on Mayer's principles of multimedia learning and Knowles' andragogy and administered to patients under the care of AULSS 6 Euganea outpatient clinics. The evaluation was conducted using the VLUK (Venous Leg Ulcer Knowledge), VELUSET (Venous Leg Ulcer Self-Efficacy Tool), and PUSH Tool scales. Results indicate a discrepancy between patients' high confidence in practical self-management and limited theoretical knowledge of the condition. Educational videos emerge as a potential tool to bridge this gap, enhancing treatment adherence and promoting a more informed approach to managing their chronic condition. Further research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of educational videos on a larger sample and to evaluate their long-term impact on recurrences and healthcare costs.
Le ulcere venose agli arti inferiori (VLU) rappresentano una condizione cronica comune, associata a una significativa riduzione della qualità della vita dei pazienti e a costi elevati per i sistemi sanitari. Questo studio pilota si propone di valutare la fattibilità e l’efficacia di video educativi per migliorare la conoscenza e l'autoefficacia dei pazienti nella gestione autonoma delle VLU. Sono stati sviluppati quattro video, basati sui principi dell’apprendimento multimediale di Mayer e dell’andragogia di Knowles, e somministrati ai pazienti in cura presso gli ambulatori dell'AULSS 6 Euganea. La valutazione è stata condotta utilizzando le scale VLUK (Venous Leg Ulcer Knowledge), VELUSET (Venous Leg Ulcer Self-Efficacy Tool) e Push Tool. I risultati indicano una discrepanza tra l'elevata fiducia dei pazienti nell'autogestione pratica e una conoscenza teorica limitata della patologia. L'uso dei video educativi emerge come un potenziale strumento per colmare questo divario, migliorando l'aderenza terapeutica e favorendo una gestione più consapevole della propria condizione cronica. Future ricerche sono necessarie per confermare l'efficacia dei video educativi su un campione più ampio e valutare l'impatto a lungo termine su recidive e costi sanitari.
