Introduction: The consumption of added sugars in the diet has an impact not only on the systemic health of the individual, but also on the oral cavity. The consumption of sugarsweetened beverages (SSB) has increased in the last thirty years and is continuing to grow. The consequences of the consumption of SSB on the oral cavity have therefore been investigated, also based on the type of beverage consumed. A safe limit dose of the consumption of these beverages is also being sought. Materials e Methods: A literature search was performed in September 2024. There were no restrictions on publication dates and article type. The keywords used were: “dental caries”, “tooth decay”, “cavities”, “dental erosion”, “periodontitis”, “periodontal disease” “sugar beverages” “sugar sweetened beverages”, “sweet beverages” and “dietary habits”. These were combined with the logical operators AND/OR. Titles and abstracts were screened to exclude duplicates and irrelevant studies. Results: Of the 109 articles included in the review, 53 investigated the correlation between SSB consumption and dental erosion, 45 the correlation between SSB consumption and dental caries and finally 11 the correlation between SSB consumption and the risk of periodontal disease. Conclusion: The association between SSB consumption and erosion, caries and periodontal disease exists. All categories of SSB analyzed have found a positive association between their consumption and the risk of erosion, caries and periodontal disease. It was not possible to define a safe limit dose of consumption of these beverages in order to avoid the problems investigated.
