CONFRONTO DELLE DIVERSE MODALITA’ DI APPROCCIO ALLA PARODONTITE E ALLA PERIMPLANTITE DA PARTE DELL’IGIENISTA DENTALE VS IL PARODONTOLOGO, REVISIONE DELLA LETTERATURA

The purpose of the work: the goal of this study is to analyze and compare, through a revision of the literature, the roles and skills of the dental hygienist and the periodontologist in the management of periodontitis and perimplantitis. Materials and methods: for this revision of literature, research has been conducted on various scientific databases to identify studies that compare the roles and methods of treatment adopted by the dental hygienist and the periodontologist in the management of periodontitis and perimplantitis. The investigation was carried out through PubMed electronics database (Medeline-PubMed), in scientific journals: Italian Journal Hygiene, Aiditalia, Dentaljournal, and in the textbooks of clinical periodontology and implant dentistry, oral hygiene professional theory, clinical periodontology and oral implantology . The material identified starting from 2014 to today through keywords: Peri-implantits, mucosters, protocols, dental hygienist,, Treatment, Dental Implant. Conclusions: From the revision of literature it emerges that the dental hygienist plays a central role in the prevention and conservative treatment of periodontal diseases, in particular in the initial phases of periodontitis and perimplantitis. The periodontologist, on the other hand, is essential for the management of the most advanced phases and for surgical treatments. The collaboration between these two professionals is crucial to guarantee a multidisciplinary approach that better the patient's periodontal health and the longevity of the dental systems. The revision also suggests the need for a revision of the regulations that allows the dental hygienist to perform local anesthesia, in order to increase the effectiveness of non -surgical treatments.

Scopo del lavoro: L'obiettivo di questo studio è analizzare e confrontare, attraverso una revisione della letteratura, i ruoli e le competenze dell'igienista dentale e del parodontologo nella gestione delle malattie malattie infiammatorie quali la parodontite e la perimplantite. Materiali e metodi: Per questa revisione della letteratura, è stata condotta una ricerca su diversi database scientifici per identificare studi che confrontano i ruoli e le modalità di trattamento adottate dall’igienista dentale e dal parodontologo nella gestione della parodontite e della perimplantite. L’indagine è stata effettuata attraverso database elettronico di PubMed (MEDELINE-Pubmed), e nei libri di testo di Parodontologia clinica e Odontoiatria Implantare, Il materiale individuato a partire dal 2014 ad oggi attraverso le parole chiave: ”dental hygenist vs dentist threatment”; “Periodontal disease”; “Periodontal therapy”; “Dental hygienist”; “Open flap” “Closed flap”;”Peri-implantitis”; “Surgical treatment”;”Non- surgical treatment”; “peri-implant mucositis” Conclusioni: Dalla revisione della letteratura emerge che l’igienista dentale svolge un ruolo centrale nella prevenzione e nel trattamento conservativo delle malattie parodontali, in particolare nelle fasi iniziali di parodontite e perimplantite. Il parodontologo, d'altro canto, è essenziale per la gestione delle fasi più avanzate e per i trattamenti chirurgici. La collaborazione tra questi due professionisti è cruciale per garantire un approccio multidisciplinare che migliori la salute parodontale del paziente e la longevità degli impianti dentali. La revisione suggerisce anche la necessità di una revisione delle normative che permetta all’igienista dentale di eseguire anestesie locali, al fine di aumentare l’efficacia dei trattamenti non chirurgici.
