The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the evolution and importance of aerodynamics in the world of the most important automobile competition of all, with a focus on the technical solutions adopted over time by engineers. It will be explained how airflow management affects the stability and speed of a car, and how important it is to have the right balance between drag and downforce. The use of modern techniques for analysing aerodynamics, such as wind tunnels and CFD software, will also be explored. In the end, there's some ideas for possible future developments in Formula 1 by considering both a more eco-friendly future and the use of new technologies and materials.
Lo scopo di questa tesi è analizzare l’evoluzione e l’importanza dell’aerodinamica nel mondo della competizione automobilistica più importante di tutte, con particolare attenzione alle soluzioni tecniche adottate nel tempo dagli ingegneri. Si proverà a dare una spiegazione sul come la gestione del flusso d’aria influenzi la stabilita`, la velocità di una vettura, e come sia importante avere il giusto equilibrio tra resistenza e deportanza. Verrà anche approfondito l’uso di tecniche moderne per analizzare l’aerodinamica, come le gallerie del vento e software CFD. Infine si proverà a prevedere quali sono le possibili evoluzioni future della Formula 1 considerando sia un futuro più eco-sostenibile sia l’uso di nuove tecnologie e materiali.
