INTRODUCTION: From the life story of a patient I had the opportunity to assist in this last year, I was born the desire to deepen the connection between anesthesia and chemotherapy that is perfectly embodied in what is HIPEC and the importance of the nursing role in the intensive monitoring of an oncology patient. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY: The objective of this paper is to deepen the treatment of peritoneal metastases through the combination of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) and to highlight the importance of the nursing role in the management and treatment of the latter. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This paper analyzes the effectiveness of CRS - HIPEC treatment in patients affected by peritoneal carcinomatosis. To elaborate the research question, I used the acronym PIO: P – patient “oncological patients with diagnosis of peritoneal carcinomatosis”, I – intervention “treatment with citoreductive surgery (CRS) followed by hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC)”, O – outcome “effectiveness of treatment”. The literature review was conducted on the main online medical databases, namely PUBMED and CIHNAL, with the application of the filters “Full text”, “Abstract Available”, “English” and “Italian”. The articles found suitable for eligibility are 6 that were included in the bibliographic review. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The results of the literature review highlight the efficacy and safety of treatment with cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) and the importance of the nursing role in its management. In conclusion, the nurse must possess a double set of skills: those of anesthesiological nursing and those more niche related to oncological nursing.KEY WORDS: anatomy AND physiology of the peritoneum”, “peritoneal neoplasms”, “Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy”, “cytoreductive surgery”, “cytoreduction surgical procedures”.
Per elaborare la domanda di ricerca, ho utilizzato l’acronimo PIO: P – paziente “oncological patients with diagnosis of peritoneal carcinomatosis”, I – intervento “treatment with citoreductive surgery (CRS) followed by hyperthermical intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC)”, O – outcome “effectiveness of tratment”. AND physiology of the peritoneum”, “peritoneal neoplasms”, “Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy”, “cytoreductive surgery”, “cytoreduction surgical procedures”.
