La música como arma política y de resistencia en Chile.

The main objective of this thesis is to analyse the importance and role played by music as a political and resistance weapon during the period of great repression that Chile faced in the last century. To this end, the historical and political context that characterised the country throughout the period of cultural effervescence during the Allende government and during the dictatorial regime established by Pinochet with his rise to power in 1973 has been examined. In addition, the emergence of new musical formulas and new artists has been analysed, and how this changed during the dictatorship. In particular, the lives, careers and artistic and musical works of a multitude of characters who belonged to the New Chilean Music have been examined in order to study how music was an effective tool for denouncing various social problems and for resisting the repression imposed by the Dictatorship. Through this thesis, it has been possible to confirm that music continues to exert a great influence on Chilean society as a means of communication and of uniting a community united by a feeling of denunciation and rejection of the repression exercised by the dictatorial regime. In addition, we would like to highlight how songs written in the midst of the dictatorship are still being disseminated among the Chilean people today. In fact, they have an almost mythical character. And that indicates a great Chilean interest in everything that characterised the history, society and politics of their country during the 20th century.

El objetivo principal de esta tesis consiste en analizar la importancia y el rol desempeñado por la música como arma política y de resistencia durante el periodo de gran represión que enfrentó Chile en el siglo pasado. Con este propósito, se ha examinado el contexto histórico y político que caracterizó al país a lo largo del periodo de efervescencia cultural durante el gobierno de Salvador Allende y durante el régimen dictatorial establecido por Augusto Pinochet con su ascenso al poder en 1973. Además, se ha analizado la aparición de nuevas fórmulas musicales y nuevos artistas y cómo todo eso cambió durante la dictadura. En particular, se han examinado las vidas, las carreras y las obras artísticas y musicales de una multitud de personajes que pertenecieron a la Nueva Música Chilena con el fin de estudiar cómo la música fue una herramienta eficaz para denunciar diversos problemas sociales y para oponer resistencia a la represión impuesta por la Dictadura. A través de esta tesis, se ha podido constatar que la música sigue ejerciendo una gran influencia en la sociedad chilena como medio de comunicación y de unión de una comunidad unida por un sentimiento de denuncia y de rechazo hacia la represión ejercida por el régimen dictatorial. Además, se quiere destacar cómo canciones escritas en plena dictadura siguen siendo difundidas hoy en día entre la gente chilena. De hecho, tienen un carácter casi mítico. Y eso indica un gran interés chileno hacia todo lo que caracterizó la historia, la sociedad y la política de su país durante el siglo XX.
