La Brexit e la ridefinizione della Sicurezza e della Difesa europea: il Regno Unito e l'UE tra passato, presente e futuro

The UK's exit from the EU shook the foundations of the European security and defence architecture. As a first step, this paper will analyse the challenges of the negotiations that eventually led to the withdrawal agreement. In the second chapter, the UK's historical role within the Common Security and Defence Policy and its implications for NATO will be examined. Next, the post-Brexit European reorganisation and the strategies undertaken by the EU to fill the vacuum left by the UK's exit will be discussed. The third chapter will focus on understanding whether, after Brexit, it can be said that systemic forms of cooperation exist between the European Union and the United Kingdom, particularly in the field of security and defense.

L’uscita del Regno Unito dall’UE ha scosso le fondamenta dell’architettura della Sicurezza e della Difesa europea. In un primo momento, il presente elaborato si propone di analizzare le sfide del negoziato che ha poi condotto al raggiungimento di un accordo di recesso. Nel secondo capitolo, sarà esaminato il ruolo storico del Regno Unito all’interno della Politica Comune di Sicurezza e Difesa e le sue implicazioni per la NATO. Successivamente, sarà dissertato il riassetto europeo post-Brexit e le strategie intraprese dall’UE per colmare il vuoto lasciato dall’uscita del Regno Unito. Il terzo capitolo sarà incentrato a comprendere se, dopo la Brexit, sia possibile affermare che esitano forme di cooperazione sistemica tra l'Unione Europea e il Regno Unito, in particolare in materia di sicurezza e difesa.
