Green public procurement (GPP) is an increasingly prominent policy tool that facilitates the evolution of industries toward environmentally sustainable practices through the application of environmental criteria. The ultimate objective is to promote the transition of supply chains toward configurations that are more environmentally friendly. The extant academic literature on GPP tends to concentrate on the barriers and drivers to its implementation, with the perspective of public procurers often being the sole focus. The existing literature lacks sufficient knowledge regarding the viewpoint of first-tier suppliers in the public sector. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the impact of GPP on the processes, supply networks, and costs of companies participating in public tenders. This study employs a multiple case study methodology to analyze data collected through semi-structured interviews with a sample of companies and triangulated with documentation obtained from the suppliers themselves or from public administrations. The analyses conducted revealed that GPP is an effective tool in transforming companies' processes and supply networks, although not all the potential is yet fully expressed. At the cost level, a systemic increase was found throughout the sample. The findings also enabled the delineation of several potential actions that public agencies and their suppliers can implement to improve the effectiveness of GPP and mitigate potential negative effects that emerged from the analysis.
