The meritocratic society tends to create inequalities and, according to several authors, education is increasingly tied to personal success at the expense of other values and formative factors. Tests and quantitative evaluation systems aim to maximize academic results at minimal costs. Various studies show that such a system also produces harmful effects on the educational path and the psychological well-being of students. The qualitative research carried out implemented the use of semi-structured interviews conducted with thirty-six participants enrolled in different degree programs at the University of Padua, with the aim of exploring subjective perspectives on merit and the evaluation system within the academic field. Additionally, questionnaires were used to define an initial assessment of any forms of psychological distress experienced by the respondents. The collected texts were then subjected to thematic analysis. The results lead to critical reflection and useful elements for improving educational practices in the analyzed contexts.

Abstract
The results lead to critical reflection and useful elements for improving educational practices in the analyzed contexts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
