From birth, boys and girls are socialized to gender through the socialization agencies they encounter during their growth, such as family and school. In this process, gender stereotypes are inevitably transmitted that influence the life paths of young people, often imparting rigid roles and expectations related to gender. This paper analyzes which gender stereotypes empirical research has detected in boys and girls of different ages and how they can influence children's daily life, starting from the choice of games and companions to the choice of study path. It also presents the initiatives that Europe and Italy have proposed to deconstruct gender stereotypes, with particular attention to the school environment and the role of teachers and teaching materials in the transmission of stereotypes. Finally, the results of an empirical research on gender stereotypes carried out in three primary schools in the province of Vicenza are presented.

Abstract
Finally, the results of an empirical research on gender stereotypes carried out in three primary schools in the province of Vicenza are presented.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
