Gli albi illustrati: finestra e specchio delle nuove morfologie familiari

The aim of this paper is to show the landscape of different family structures conveyed in the books for children in the age group from 3 to 6 years old. Given the socio-cultural transformations that have taken place within contemporary society in the last years defining the term ‘family’ today appears more complex than ever. As of today it appears it would be more correct to speak of ‘families’ given the plurality of the existing types and forms that exist. But what is the predominant image of ‘family’ that illustrated books, aimed at children aged 3-6, published in the years 2013-2023 propose? This was the main question that guided my research. The objective has been therefore to analyze some recent publications from the most well-known publishers in the field of children's literature and, by selecting the illustrated books that explicitly depicted a certain family model, analyse which and how many different forms were present in the narrative. The research, of empirical-exploratory nature, involved both quantitative data collection, carried out by inserting the information collected into an Excel sheet, and a qualitative one, implemented with the help of an analysis table. The survey revealed that the illustrated books that show a certain family model are more than those in which there are no explicit forms. Furthermore, it was noticeable that among the publications there is a reduced variety of family morphologies: single-parent families, after traditional ones, are the most represented. This data is probably justified by the delay in the cultural modernisation of Italy. The number of publishers and overall information analysed has been limited, but the research could be further developed and deepened.

L’intento di questo elaborato di tesi è mostrare il panorama familiare veicolato nei libri con cui entrano in contatto i bambini della fascia 3-6 anni. Definire il termine ‘famiglia’ appare oggi più complesso, date le trasformazioni socio-culturali avvenute all’interno della società contemporanea, e sarebbe più corretto parlare di ‘famiglie’ data la pluralità di forme familiari esistenti. Ma effettivamente Qual è l’immagine di famiglia che gli albi illustrati, rivolti ai bambini tra i 3 e i 6 anni, pubblicati negli anni 2013-2023 propongono? Questa è stata la domanda che ha guidato il percorso di ricerca, il cui scopo era dunque analizzare alcune recenti pubblicazioni delle case editrici più note nel mondo dell’editoria per l’infanzia e, selezionando gli albi illustrati che mostravano esplicitamente un certo modello familiare, analizzare quali e quante forme erano presenti. La ricerca, di tipo empirico-esplorativo, ha previsto sia una tecnica di rilevazione dati di tipo quantitativo, realizzata tramite l’inserimento delle informazioni raccolte in un foglio Excel, sia di tipo qualitativo, attuata tramite l’ausilio di una tabella di analisi. Dall’indagine è emerso che gli albi illustrati che mostrano un certo modello familiare sono di più rispetto a quelli in cui non ci sono forme esplicite. Inoltre, si è potuto notare che tra le pubblicazioni è presente una ridotta varietà di morfologie familiari: le famiglie monoparentali, accanto a quelle tradizionali, sono le maggiormente rappresentate. Questo dato è probabilmente giustificato dal ritardo del processo di modernizzazione del nostro Paese. Il numero di case editrici e di informazioni da reperire è stato circoscritto, ma la ricerca potrebbe essere ulteriormente sviluppata e approfondita.
