The research aimed to test whether a placebo effect can be detected in reading skills and whether there is a relationship between the placebo effect and personality traits. The research was carried out on a sample of undergraduate students at the University of Padua. Recently released glasses with backlit lenses (flickering at different frequencies), claimed to be useful in improving reading performance, were used to study the placebo effect. Study participants performed a series of reading tests under three conditions: a control condition, and two conditions in which the glasses were said to be activated and the flickering frequency of the lenses was manipulated. In the group tested de facto the spectacle lenses were always off. Following the reading trials the Big Five questionnaire was made to be filled out so that personality traits and sensitivity to the placebo effect could be related. From the results, a placebo effect was found to be unrelated to the personality traits investigated.

Abstract
From the results, a placebo effect was found to be unrelated to the personality traits investigated.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
