The purpose of the following study is to clearly define when an artifact can be considered original or forged and how it moves within the art market over the centuries, with particular emphasis on the modern and contemporary periods. The research aims to contribute to the understanding of forgery in sculpture not only as a historical and artistic phenomenon but also as a prism through which to examine the interactions between authenticity, artistic value, and the art market in modern times. Two specific case studies will be examined: an ancient erote now lost, cited in the collection of Isabella d'Este, and two modern terracottas currently at Villa Bassi Ratgheb in Abano Terme. Both will be analyzed, studied, and authenticated using two different but necessary approaches: in the first case, the iconographic analysis will be complemented by the study of sources, while in the second case, archival research will be conducted.

Abstract
Both will be analyzed, studied, and authenticated using two different but necessary approaches: in the first case, the iconographic analysis will be complemented by the study of sources, while in the second case, archival research will be conducted.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
