This thesis explores the evolution of storytelling in video games, with a focus on adaptations of mythological and historical tales, culminating in an in-depth analysis of the video game Dante's Inferno and its relationship to Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. The first chapter provides a historical overview of video games, analyzing how the industry has grown into a complex narrative medium. The evolution of storytelling from linear beginnings to modern interactive and nonlinear structures is examined, highlighting technological advances that have enabled more dynamic and immersive stories. Next, it explores how video games have adapted ancient myths and stories, as is the case in God of War and Assassin's Creed, to the case study Dante's Inferno, analyzing the challenges and opportunities of cross-media adaptation of the Divine Comedy. This thesis aims to offer a critical reflection on the potential of the video game medium as a tool for cultural adaptation, highlighting the narrative and symbolic implications that emerge in the transition from literature to video games.
